Mindfulness & Breathwork Training for Schools North Tyneside

Supporting Primary and Secondary Schools in North Tyneside to help teachers feel confident to incorporate breathwork & mindfulness into the classroom to support with behaviour, mental health and anxiety

Conversations and awareness of mental health issues are more commonplace than ever before, however practical strategies and resources to support our children at home and at school are not.

We still don't know the exact number of children battling issues like anxiety and depression, but here are some statistics about mental health that help tell the story…

  • 1 in 6 children aged 5-16 likely to have a mental health problem [Source]

  • The Children’s Society’s Good Childhood Report 2022 shows that children's happiness continues to decline. Now, 5 children in a classroom of 30 are likely to have a mental health problem.

  • 34% of those who do get referred into NHS services are not accepted into treatment [Source]

  • 50% of all mental health problems start by the age of 14 [Source]

  • 2% of 6 to 16 year olds had experienced deterioration in mental health since 2017 [Source]

What we offer to support schools?

We understand the limitations of curriculum time, so this CPD session equips teachers and those working in education with the knowledge to implement practical strategies with consistency into the classroom and beyond. These are simple, effective strategies for children, parents and schools.

Teachers are already under pressure to be so many different people to the child, so this CPD is very much about providing them with manageable techniques to incorporate into the classroom to genuinely support regulation and behaviour. Yoga literally means ‘union’ and centers around viewing the mind and body as a whole, not separate entities.

During this training, Steph covers:

  • Breathwork techniques to support with learning – breathwork activities to calm and breathwork activities to tackle lethargy

  • Mindfulness tools to cultivate resilience

  • The role of the autonomic nervous system, ‘good and bad stress’ and how to activate the rest response

  • Techniques to explore emotion safely

  • Awareness of the mind & body connection, including how to cultivate presence and give the brain ‘a break’.

  • Practical strategies to implement at school and at home to help with anxiety.

How can we help?

After working in education for 12 years, as an English Teacher and Middle Leader, Steph now co-runs Jasmine Yoga & Wellbeing in Tynemouth delivering an array of in-studio classes, as well as working with schools, organisations and charities across the region. She has worked throughout North Tyneside to empower, exercise and educate the whole child through a mixture of Breathwork, Yoga and Mindfulness from toddlers to teens.

What a powerful tool it would be if we can equip our young people with practical skills and techniques to support their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing as preventative measures, instead of reactionary.
